Thank you for your interest in the ISA+21 Scholarship Program. The women of ISA+21 share a common professional bond of encouraging women worldwide to pursue careers as airline pilots. Each year, talented pilots are lost to the industry due to the high cost of flight training. These scholarships provide a means for ISA to contribute at a crucial point in a pilot's career.
If you are or if you know a dedicated woman with an aptitude for flying and the determination to turn that aptitude into a pilot career, ISA's scholarships may help. The ISA Scholarship Program disburses cash awards towards pilot certificates and ratings, and type ratings to qualifying women.
THE ISA FINANCIAL SCHOLARSHIP In an effort to assist women whose goals are to fly for the world's airlines, ISA has earmarked funds for a pilot who has already demonstrated her decision to join ISA members in this great profession. The Financial Scholarship is a cash award paid directly to a flight school or training institute to assist women pursuing airline pilot careers with obtaining advanced airplane ratings: CFI, CFII, MEI, ME Commercial, (SE COMM required to apply), or ATP. It does not have a set dollar amount to be awarded. Applicants apply for the amount required to obtain the rating sought at a specific flight school of choice. Travel expenses, housing, and supplies are not included.
Funds may be awarded in honor of several women who have contributed to ISA’s program and profession:
Holly Mullins Memorial Scholarship is reserved for single mothers
Grace McAdams Harris Scholarship is for applicants who have demonstrated an exceptionally spirited and ingenious attitude under difficult circumstances in the field of aviation
Fiorenza de Bernardi Financial Scholarship is to aid those pilots endeavoring to fill some of the basic squares, i.e., CFI, CFII, or the non-US equivalent.
North Carolina Financial Scholarship is for a woman pilot from North Carolina interested in a career in the airline world. This scholarship is made possible by the contributions and proceeds from the Women in Aviation Air Show held in Winston-Salem, NC in 1998.
Financial Scholarship Requirements: Applicant must posses FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate for Airplane, with an Instrument Rating, or non-US equivalent. Must have time in fixed wing aircraft to commensurate with the rating sought. For ATP applicants only, must have 1400TT and ATP written test complete. Please review the Application Instructions and Guidelines for additional requirements.
THE ISA AIRLINE SCHOLARSHIP Since its inception in 1988, the ISA scholarship program has grown to include aircraft type ratings (i.e. B-737, B-727) awarded to women actively pursuing and airline career. These Airline Scholarships are due to generous donations from both individual and corporate sponsors. Please note that the type of airline scholarship available each year may vary, based on sponsors and availability. Therefore, an applicant cannot apply for a specific aircraft type rating. Applicants apply for “Airline” on the application. Once awarded, the aircraft type and the corporate sponsor(s) will be announced to the winner.
All scholarship winners are selected after careful review of the application documents and a personal interview. Sincere attempts are made after the interview to provide counseling to assist applicants in obtaining their career goals.
Airline Scholarship Requirements Applicant must have an Airline Transport Pilot rating (or non-US equivalent) and a First Class Medical Certificate. Additional requirements may be stipulated by the sponsor. Pilots currently flying under CFR Part 121 or equivalent may apply if able to show career and financial need. Please review the Application Instructions and Guidelines for additional requirements.
